OTHELLO VS. GRIT AND MINDSET
Human development and success is constructed from the profound identity and mindset portrays in ones life. Psychologist Angela Duckworth and Carl Dweck have explained the implications to successful lifestyles in their research. To have grit is to have strength of character. To be gritty, helps one’s self with a growth mindset better succeed at something and the drive to get things done. A growth mindset will help a person set goals and limitations for themselves.

For example the pilite of the play is based off of jealousy and decicite. The five characters that shows grit and mindset are Othello, Desdemona, Iago and Brabantio. Each character are driven to fight for their beliefs and are driven by hate. Most of the characters in this play shows a clear viewing and an understanding of grit. One character that shows grit is Iago. Iago shows grit negatively by filling Othello’s head with a bunch of lies about his wife Desdemona. Iago has grit by making up plans to get revenge on Othello which goes back to hate. Othello picks Cassio to become lieutant instead for him. So he makes plans to ruin his marriage. The play says “ It is too late” (Act 5, Scene 2) (line 105). One can clearly see that Iago plan did go as planned going to the extent to ruin Othello’s marriage. His plan was successful in a way. Due to the play Iago says “ Foorsooth, a great arthmetican, One Micheal Cassiopeia, a Floorentine. That never set a squadron in the field, Nor the division of a battle” (Act1, Scene1. Lines 20- 24). Iago also shows grit by try to sabotage Cassio’s position as lieutant. He does everything in his power to kill cassio of he can be in his postion. This shows Iago was being spiteful to Othello based off the decision he made, which results to Othello killing his wife. This shows he was determine to hurt Othello and …show more content…
After hearing all the rumors he believed it and was going through a lot of insercuties. Because of the rumors and lies he started to hate Desdemona. He was plotting on killing her. Another example of mindset is how the mindset. Othello also shows grit because he is a determined individual and he doesnt not give up easily. Iago is feeding him lies and he wants to find out more about Desdemona’s “wrong doings”. So he askes Iago to give him proof of this accusations.
Cassio shows a growth mindset. When he was fired he did not dwell on the situation. He dusted his self up and asked Desdemona to help him get his job back.
One character that shows a sense of grit in the play Brabantio. Brabantio shows grit because he tries everything in his power to convince the judge that othello was doing witchcraft to persuade his daughter to marry him. He tries to separted the two more but Desdemona had said she wanted to be with othello and move in with him.. Branbatio was very disappointed with this decision. The reason for his disaapointment was because he haed the fact that he daughter was getting mrried to an african american man. This shows that brabantio perserver to put an end to the marriage by going on trail so othello and Desdmona can not be together. But unfortantely, it didnt goes as planned for
