The American dream is defined differently by everyone. Some might say that the dream is to have whatever you want and others say it is to get a job that you enjoy and have a place to live. F. Scott Fitzgerald shows how greed corrupted the idea of the American dream in the 1920´s. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows this idea by using characters, especially Gatsby, when he throws numerous parties to show off what he has. Also, how people use Gatsby’s money to have a good time and not actually take the time to get to know him. People come to this country thinking that it will be easy to become rich and famous. It may be easy for very few people but most people it will hard to obtain. They think that it will just come out of a tree but in reality, you actually have to work for it. It is possible to live the American Dream if you work hard and are not greedy.
