Usually, the mother ensures that the children have food and takes care of the family whilst the father goes to work. Generally, men have more power than women and this is one of the reasons why gender inequality exists. Gender inequality began far back in history. Even for cave men, women were expected to produce and care for children. Eventually this led to the idea that women are not capable of doing other jobs or activities. In the past, women were treated as fragile beings who needed protection, making them dependent on men and thus men hold more power. However, there was a time whereby men and women were treated equally, and they would divide the chores between each other to provide for their families. Women were also not given the right to vote and take part in certain jobs in the workplace in the past and this has negatively affected the role of women and it has also influenced the expectations of women in the workplace and in society today. Certain religions also require the mother to ensure that her children get everything they need and that their husbands are happy. The role of women as nurturing and taking care of the children is somewhat biological. Women are the ones who give birth and while pregnant and while breastfeeding they are not only vulnerable but the baby is also vulnerable. This means that they need to be protected and therefore are less likely to go out hunting or engaging in other dangerous activities. Women should also participate more in the decision making processes, in companies, businesses as well as in parliament as this can allow them to advocate for equal rights for women and ensure that the decisions that are made ensure that they do not deprive women from anything. Educating children in schools on the importance of women and making them aware of the capabilities of women will result in them growing up with a positive outlook on women and therefore, they will respect women and violence against women can be reduced. Employers of businesses and companies should be motivated and encouraged to include more female employees in the workplace, with equal pay and rights. A human-rights based approach can invest more into changing the attitudes and behaviour of communities towards supporting women by helping them assert their rights to their full capacity. Men should be encouraged to change their attitudes towards women and view women as equals. They should also participate in campaigns and other events that support equality for women.
