Initially, George and Lennie have a strong connection between each other. Which allows them to have a bond that gives them comfort to one another. This is shown when George states “we got a future we got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us. Because I got you to look after me and you got me to look after you”. This shows their strong relationship with each other makes their life more significant. That they are able to depend on each other and extinguish the sadness of being alone. However, George and Lennie’s lives have been made more meaningful because of each other and how it removes the feeling of isolation. This is shown when Lennie states “ George won’t go away and leave me. I know George won’t do that”. This statement said by Lennie shows the importance of their relationship, that they can trust each other and know that they have each other in times of need. Consequently, George feels pain after losing his friend, that those connections are gone and now he is alone. An example that is shown in the novel is “ George shivered and looked at the gun and then thrown it from him”. This shows his realization of him losing his friend. That now he is alone and his life was made less meaningful without his friend, that he no longer has someone to interact and share memories with.
