Irony
On page 67 of The Crucible John Proctor was reciting the 10 commandments and forgot the commandment about adultery. This is an example of irony because he is committing adultery with Abigail Williams.

He is one of the greedy types of people. In the first couple scenes he is worried about his sick daughter, Betty. He isn’t worried about her, he is worried about his reputation that she’ll give off. Parris is afraid that people will think there is witchcraft is his household and that he won’t be able to be the minister of Salem. Another example of him being greedy is at the end of the play he is crying, but not because of all the people he murdered but because Abigail W. robbed him and he became broke.
Abigail Williams - Abigail is Parris’ niece and was a housekeeper of the Proctor household. One of the people who is accused of witchcraft. She knows how to be manipulative and a good liar. Abigail knows how to get people to do what she wants. She was the one who started the witchcraft but she accuses everyone else of doing it. She is also having an affair with John Proctor.
