Foreshadowing is important because it is the window to fate that allows people to see deeper. In this play especially there is a lot of foreshadowing towards the fate of Romeo and Juliet. Three of the most important foreshadowing quotes that connected to fate were: “In herbs, plants, stones and their true qualities; For naught so vile that on the earth doth live but to the earth some special good goth give (Shakespeare, 101),” “These violent delights have violent ends (Shakespeare, 133),” and “Methinks I see thee, now thou art below, as one dead in the bottom of a tomb (Shakespeare, 197).” These quotes all foreshadowed the death of Romeo and Juliet because Shakespeare wanted the audience to find a deeper meaning into the play. According to the excerpt from scene one, act one of Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence starts off by explaining the dilemma at hand to Benvolio, “Both by myself and many other friends. But he, his own affections' counselor, Is to himself—I will not say how true, But to himself so secret and so close, So far from sounding and discovery, As is the bud bit with an envious worm, Ere he can spread his sweet leaves to the air, Or dedicate his beauty to the same. Could we but learn from whence his sorrows grow. We would as willingly give cure as know” (Shakespeare 1.1.136-145). Benvolio responds with: “See, where he comes.…

One example of foreshadowing shown in Romeo and Juliet was found on page 838, Lady Capulet says, “Ay, sir; but she will none, she gives you thanks. I would the fool were married to her grave…” What Lady Capulet is saying is telling readers that Lady Capulet believes that Juliet is acting as if she doesn’t want to get married because it would be like dying to her. This is important because Juliet later kills herself because she does not want to be married to anyone but Romeo. She would rather die with Romeo than live without him. In another example of foreshadowing shown in Naughts and Crosses can be found on page 280 when Sephy’s servant asks,“You- you’re not pregnant are you?”…

The theme that nothing and no one can escape fate is displayed through dramatic irony and foreshadowing in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The literary element dramatic irony is used in an impactful manor when developing theme. For example, it is stated in the text “Some consequence yet hanging in the stars shall bitterly begin his fearful date/ With this nights revels” (I.IIII.108-109). This particular quote is stating how Romeo had a premonition of unfortunate events that would occur due to his attendance at the Capulet party, Romeo proceeded to the party anyway.…

Shakespeare's plot in his famous work Romeo and Juliet uses a lot of foreshadowing as to what the outcome of the protagonists will turn out to be. Shakespeare also incorporates dramatic irony into his play for example, when Romeo and Juliet get married secretly and it is completely unbeknownst to Paris and both the Capulets and Montague families about Juliet’s marriage to Romeo. Another very common element Shakespeare uses in the Tragic Flaw. This usually means that one or two of the main characters have a flaw so tragically horrible that it is always what marks their downfall. In Shakespeare’s play about Romeo and Juliet one of the effects that Shakespeare uses to enhance his plot is foreshadowing.…

Mankind are attracted and interested by drama, whether it be visual or aural, and Shakespeare has figured this out and applied it to the first act of Romeo and Juliet. An example of visual and aural drama is: “...As I hate hell, all Montagues and thee. / Have at thee, coward / they fight.” (I, i, 65-67). The men of the Montague and the Capulet houses have just drawn their swords and started to fight, bringing tension and interested apprehension into the audience.…

In the play Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare makes many arguments through the words choices of figurative language to argue his claim that Juliet is the most beautiful person in the whole world. First of all, in the text of “Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope,” the author developed the argument by comparing the two so that you can make a opinion. In other words, he is using the type of figurative language called a simile. In this simile he compares the Ethiop’s jewel to Juliet’s beauty.…

The most apparent “foreshadowing“ is the story Prologue, but that doesn’t one hundred percent work. The prologue doesn’t exactly hint at what will happen in the story, it just flat out tells you the events of the play. A different foreshadowing that also tells the events of the play, but is less telling, is the scene where Romeo tells about the dream he has. When Mercutio responds with his story about “queen mab”, he responds with “I fear, too early: for my mind misgives. Some consequence yet hanging in the stars, Shall bitterly begin his fearful date.…

Foreshadowing is one of the many literary devices he utilizes to build anticipation in his readers. In Act 1, Scene 2, Benvolio encourages Romeo to remove Rosaline from his mind and to meet new women by saying “Take thou some new infection to thy eye, and the rank poison of the old will die.” It is not coincidental that Romeo’s ‘love’ for Rosaline had vanished immediately after his encounter with Juliet, just as Benvolio had said it would. In Act 5, Scene 1, Romeo speaks to himself about a dream he had had about “his lady coming to find him dead, and breathing such life with kisses in his lips.” With that being said, just moments later Balthasar enters to advise him that Juliet has ‘passed away’ and “sleeps in Capel’s monument.”…

Poetry and other works of literature have attempted to tackle these questions and also leave their views on which side they fall. William Shakespeare, William Blake and William Wordsworth all fall under the category of praising modernity, and support the push into the new and modern.…
