Examples Of Foreshadow In A Sound Of Thunder

In the short story “A Sound of Thunder” there was a lot of foreshadow used. It seems like the most used one of all was the exaggerated importance of staying on the path and not doing anything that could possibly change the future. Travis used the phrase “stay on the path” at least four times in the beginning of the story. This is a huge hint that Eckels would possibly go off the path later on in the story, and also because he seemed to be unconvinced that it was a big deal saying things like “So what” and “Why not.” Another example of foreshadow was when Travis was explaining to Eckels the butterfly effect. He was constantly warning him that one small thing now could change a lot in the future. Travis went on about how killing one rat today

In “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, the author explores the idea that the choices we make can affect others, not just ourselves, in order to show how we as humans deal with the consequences of our choices. Bradbury first introduces this theme when he says that “a touch of the hand and this burning would, on the instant, reverse itself.” This quote shows how small actions can cause much larger consequences. What the author is doing is trying to caution the reader to be aware of how a small action on their part can affect their future. The story progresses until it reaches the point where Eckels, the protagonist, sees the monstrous Tyrannosaurus that he paid to kill.…

Another example of foreshadowing is when Miss Strangeworth notes a townsperson acting out of character at the grocery store. "Ran out of sugar for my cake frosting," Mrs. Harper explained. Throughout “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury, specific literary techniques are used to demonstrate that human nature can easily become violent and vulgar. Bradbury presents the idea that humans can quickly become vicious through amplification. When George sits at the table waiting for his house to serve dinner, Bradbury uses amplification in his thoughts and George thinks, “They were awfully young, Wendy and Peter, for death thoughts. Or, no, you were never too young, really” (4). After considering the idea that Wendy and Peter might be too young to understand or wish for death, he thinks over this again and comes to a contradictory realization that they likely do understand it.…

Throughout history, time travel has been seen as an idea of the future, but that we are far along from it. In the short story “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, it made that idea possible. Taking place in 2055, the idea of time travel has long been mastered and is now used to recreational purposes. In this situation, it was being used for hunting extinct animals from the past, without messing up the future or the past in anyway. They were very diligent when this operation took place to make sure nothing was altered or major consequences would have taken place.…
