One of the examples of this is seen in Wes's actions. Wes shows loyalty to his brother, Frank. Frank has been accused of raping many young Indian women throughout the town. Instead of locking Frank up in jail so everyone can see his poorly made decisions, Wes decides to show loyalty by locking his brother up in the basement of their house. "In the laundry room. In order for Frank's family to keep their family name, he felt that he had to commit suicide. "I knew---I knew! I knew!---that Uncle Frank's suicide had solved all our problems." (161).
