Never Shoot A Mockingbird It is a sin to kill a mockingbird. Why? It is a sin because mockingbirds are innocent creatures who do nothing but provide people with entertainment through their singing. Killing a mockingbird is the equivalent to humans harming others who have done nothing wrong at all.
Atticus says, “As you grow older, you’ll see white men cheat black men every day of your life… whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, that white man is trash”(Lee 224) This states the idea of how people should do others right no matter who they are simply because they have done nothing wrong. In the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, there are several characters who portray this particular theme of fairness and which helps reiterate the idea in the story for better comprehension. Each character goes through some type of jeopardy as mockingbirds being hurt by the cruelty of Maycomb county. The variety of examples add to the analyzing of the theme; for example Jem says, “If there's just one kind of folks, why can't they get along with each other? If they're all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other? (Lee 231) Without having the characters as quintessences, readers would not have been able to understand the theme as well.

Atticus says, “Remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.” (Lee 93) Mrs. Maudie then explains by saying, “Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy…” (Lee 93) From here on out readers get the gist of the book’s theme.
