An external conflict is a struggle between a main character and an outside force. In the first few chapters, the conflict is between Mike and John in a fight or struggle over Sarah. John has found his first love, Sarah Hart. The daughter of the real estate agent that sold them their house. Sarah was dating the quarterback of the football team Mike, until he just got too controlling and started to rub off onto Sarah in a negative way. Sarah fell in love with photography that summer and realized that life isn’t all about being a cheerleader or dating the quarterback of the football team. Mike still thinks that he is “dating” Sarah, but Sarah wants to get as far away from him as possible. On the other hand, John has found his true first love. Meanwhile, John and Mike are having a bully vs. new kid showdown, with Mike putting pig manure in John’s locker and other bully”ish” things. The next external conflict is the main conflict of the book. It is the Loriens versus the Mogadorians. John and Henri live a life in struggle every day(chapter) because they are running from the Mogadorians. They have lived in almost every place imaginable. But the Mogadorians still find them somehow. In his riveting short story "The Most Dangerous Game,” Richard Connell effectively entwines mystery and intrigue into the internal and external conflicts Rainsford faces against nature, himself, and General Zaroff. First, Rainsford struggles against his environment after he falls into the sea. Fighting the water, Rainsford tries to stay above the surface long enough to cry out to the yacht, but "the wash from the speeding yacht [slaps] him in the face and the salt water in his open mouth [makes] him gag and strangle"(Connell 15). Through his eloquent language and vivid details, including an example of personification, Connell adeptly depicts Rainford's clash against the forces of nature, leaving the reader on the edge of his seat as he waits…

Conflicting Theories Two theories presented within the literature on the independent impacts of gender and religion respectively seem to conflict with each other. Various authors made the argument that it is a widely-observed phenomenon for staunch Republican women to vote Democrat when having the choice between a man and woman candidate. This seemingly counters the argument made by religious cleavage scholars that state that women who vote for right-wing parties are typically motivated by religious interest due to contention with left-wing social policies. Both theories could be applicable, however there are a few notable explanations that can be presented for either side.…
