The play is all about Hamlet seeking revenge against his uncle/stepfather/the new king of Denmark, Claudius, for murdering his father and seducing his mother, Gertrude, into marriage. Hamlet who is told by the apparent ghost of his father that Claudius murdered him by pouring poison into his ear and must seek revenge right away is conflicted right away. Hamlet’s internal struggle of uncertainty arises doubting the Ghost’s reliability and whether murdering Claudius is morally right. The question arises did he really find success at all. I mean yes he killed Claudius, but on his journey to revenge he lost a lot on the way. He lost his mother, Gertrude, the supposed love of his life, Ophelia, his trust for others, and above all he lost himself in his quest for vengeance. It was kind of win-lose situation for the citizens of Denmark who got rid of the rot lurking in their country by Claudius’s death, but missed out on the chance of having a potentially great king due to Hamlet’s demise. Even though Hamlet defeated Claudius he still failed to find the meaning that his life
