Humans want to conquer all the power and this is mainly in King Hrothgar. He will go to war with other groups of people just to make them their slaves. That is what is wrong with the people in this story. Fighting is always among their daily lives and there is no sense of unity. Grendel was very dangerous and he even thought that “no wolf was so vicious to other wolves, but I half believed they weren’t serious” (Gardner 32). This confused Grendel because he thought that they were supposed to be friendly, but they were always against each other. Grendel took out his confusion on the humans by eating their flesh, so he added more problems to their everlasting fighting. The only time of unity came at the end of Grendel when Beowulf came to end Grendel’s life. The people gathered around Beowulf to do this and he succeeded. Humans took on a greedy role at the end where they stole the dragon’s treasure. That is still acceptable because they are not fighting. Humans were also better people because they were “crying that no better kind had ever lived, no prince so mild, no man so open to his people, so deserving of praise” (Lamb, Raffel 3180-3182). Emotions were shown and this meant that humans could live with feelings. Grendel showed humans as emotionless in certain aspects because there were so many deaths. Fate can go along with this as there were more Pagan elements in Grendel. The end goal of Beowulf was meant to unite the people with motives such as unity, togetherness, and faith. This goal was accomplished because of how many references to Jesus, and leadership through
