Customer Relationship Management can be beneficial to both the company and the consumer. The company reduces costs by offering only products that are wanted, when they are wanted, and then passes the cost savings on to the customer who signed up for the company 's customer relationship management or VIP card as many stores have now. To start a program like this the company wishing to start the system must first gather a lot of information about each customer and store it. The ethical issue with this is customer privacy and the accuracy of the gathered information.

Business ethics are the code of values and principles that govern the actions of a person, or a group of people, regarding what is right versus what is wrong. Business ethics are the actual use of that knowledge to business. Many businesses have codes of ethics but they are valuable only if their committed to the actions of the people who are in the company. A company cannot be any more or less ethical than the people who run it and who work for it. People learn the behaviors that are acceptable based on how they see the company 's leaders acting and the behaviors that they see being rewarded. Businesses that are managed by strong ethical leaders who conduct themselves as such and who reward employees for doing what is right are much more likely to have a positive ethical culture. If a company’s corporate culture is regarded by ethical behaviors, then the decisions that are made by the company 's leaders and workers are likely to be ones that are socially responsible rather than motivated solely by a profit-seeking motive. Socially responsible business decisions are ones that are made from focusing on problems that look at the needs of everyone who may be impacted by the company’s decision.
