Examples Of Ethical Incident In Beatrice

Decent Essays
This unethical act happened within Beatrice, on December 31, 2009. Jayla Hamm, 18 at the time along with her boyfriend Corde Honea, 19 at the time duct taped Hamm’s 22 month son to the wall. They continued to photograph the incident. They were “high after a night of partying” the cops reported.
It is believed that when they taped the toddler to the wall along with the 2 year-olds favorite sippy cup, just out of reach Hamm and Honea were high on drugs. They also continued with the little boy’s torture with locking him in a dark closet. It is to be said the couple did it out of entertainment, and found it funny. In a “family portiat”the parents are smiling while holding the toddlers hands up while being duct tape shut. However one friend did not find it as funny, coming to the toddlers rescue asked to borrow the camera and took it to the police to report it. When the police also found drug paraphernalia and 20 stolen firearms in open reach for the 2 year-old.

It’s hard to believe this young mother only got 10 days in jail and two year probation. She was also sentenced to attend drug counseling, and a cooperating witness in a trial against Honea who at this time was out on bail during the incident. Hamm was also allowed to serve her time during weekends so it didn’t interfere with her and her son. It’s unbelievable that she got off lightly for allowing her son to be put though that and allowing her boyfriend to do that. Honea on the other hand didn’t get off so lightly, he got 36 to 60 months behind bars for intentional child abuse. He also got caught on a burglary and was sentenced to another 24 to 60 months, then again for the possession of a stolen firearm. He was sentenced 12 to 24 months for

The first article I found was about a man named Micheal Hernandez who murdered his classmate in a school bathroom at Southwood Middle back in 2004. Micheal cold heartedly murdered his middle school friend, Jamie Gough, at age 14 in a bathroom stall and he stabbed him 40 times which got Micheal sentenced to life in prison. According to the article and recent pictures of Micheal Hernandez smiling due to his case now has to undergo a new sentencing hearing meanwhile the U.S. Supreme Court banned the automatic life terms without the possibility of parole for minors convicted of murder. Lastly, the prosecutors have strong evidence against Hernandez that could keep him locked away for life with no parole due to his chilling recordings of jail calls…

This essay will focus on Megan’s Law, a program in the United States of America that is aimed at deterring the rate of recidivism for offenders who have been convicted of child-related offences. The essay will argue that the theoretical basis is inadequate to achieve the desired result due to the lack of focus on offenders and the negative consequences that all offenders encounter. In July 1994, Jesse Timmendequas, a twice convicted sex offender was charged for the rape and murder of Megan Kanke, a seven-year-old girl who resided in his neighbourhood (SOURCE). The mother of Megan Kanke questioned local authorities on why there was no community notification of a convicted sex offender living in their neighbourhood (SOURCE).…

I chose to do my essay on the sentencing some people are given because some people do need to realize just how small minded our country is. I know some people deserve the sentencing they get but let’s face it; some of the sentencing for these convictions is ridiculous. Something more serious, someone more harmful could be on the loose or given a small amount of time. Not everybody will agree with this paper but I can guarantee they will when it comes to their own loved ones. Nobody looks at these cases the same way.…

Throughout the book, Just Mercy, the encounters Bryan Stevenson had with inmates was eye-opening to me. When one looks at the criminal justice system as a whole, every person convicted of their crime is looked upon as rightfully guilty. After reading, Just Mercy, that is clearly not the case. There are many people put into jail or even death row for crimes they did not even commit. The case with Walter McMillian is a perfect example of this.…

For this story “Videotape” it feels as if Don DeLillo had heard of the term “Mondo film” (or as it is also known Shockumantry) and was inspired by it to write a story of someone who would be a viewer of these kind of films. A “Mondo film” is a sub genre of exploitation films that take a documentary/pseudo documentary style focusing on taboo subjects such as death real or fake. Don DeLillo 's “Videotape” shows us a man who has become desensitized to violence. The character in the story is a man who has been consumed by the media; He can no longer be entertained by fictional programs and their violence, but now seeks out his entertainment in the real world.…
