WGN News 19 in Elgin, IL says a Social worker by the name of Christy Lenhardt is “facing 14 felony charges of sexual misconduct with a person with disabilities and six counts of official misconduct in Kane County after a patient by the name of Ben Hurt says she treated him like a sex-slave for three years” (article 2). Christy Lenhardt worked at the Elgin Mental Health Center as a social worker “and took advantage of her position by making her patients her sex slaves” (article 2). “Lenhart knew the sexual conduct was forbidden by law” but continued the sexual abuse anyway (2nd article). Hurt lawyers state that Mrs. Lenhardt “spent four-month seducing Hurt, starting in 2014, before they had sex at the mental institution for the first time” (Article 1). Hurt, Mrs. Lenhardt, the two other psychiatrists, the center’s director and the entire mental institution. It will impact Mr. Hurt the most because he was the one directly involved. Because he is already suffering from schizophrenia this sexual abuse can make his symptoms worse and also lead to depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress. This will impact Mrs. Lenhardt because now she is facing jail time, her license will be revoked, and she may have to register as a sex offender. Mrs. Lenhardt will never be able to work as a social worker again. Because Mr.Hurt stated that the center's director and the other two psychiatrist was aware of the abuse, but simply decided to ignore it then this can impact them as well. They may be faced with jail time, losing their job, or get sued for malpractice. Lastly, the entire mental institution can be sued and shut down. This is a lifetime impact that will cost the entire
