In the story The Odyssey written by Homer, Odysseus and his men must partake in a journey back to their homeland in Ithaca for 10 years, after their victory in the Trojan War. Throughout the story, Odysseus shows many examples of epic hero-like actions. An epic hero is a “larger-than-life figure, usually male, who embodies the ideals of a nation or race,”. Odysseus is an epic hero because he is clever, brave, and a great leader; however Odysseus is also human and therefore, has one major weakness, his curiosity. During their journey, Odysseus and his men come across a cave and decide to enter it, helping themselves to food and drink.
