When trying to identify the best form of activism, I feel urged to choose one of a nonviolent nature. Although I will contradict myself and say violence can play a powerful role in the overall effectiveness of a party’s activism. For me, I particularly like the activism shown by Rosa Parks on an Alabama public transit bus in 1955. By refusing to give up her seat to another white passenger, Rosa Parks was arrested. After this happened, the black community rose together and boycotted the segregation on public busses, which resulted in over 90% of the black community in Montgomery Alabama coming together to protest. Yes, a popular display of activism recently has been that of the group who support, “Black lives matter” which became popular after videos aired on the internet of black people being killed, or harmed in the hands of law enforcement.
In this modern movement(s) that you have identified, where is the visible "activism" being demonstrated? ... Is it somehow different in its methods from the Civil Rights Movement of the past?
Their have been multiple riots in major cities of groups, white and black alike, who are protesting the corruptness and racial bias of law enforcement. I believe both the civil rights movement and the “black lives matter” protest certainly have their parallels. I believe the key difference is the power of the internet, which has made modern day protesting a much larger and somewhat easier process. Today, protesting no longer has to be only done on the streets in order to reach their targeted audience.
