(Sophocles 13)You know that feeling of suspense you get when you watch a scary movie, and you know something bad is about happen, but you can not tell the character. That is called dramatic irony. Dramatic Irony is when you know more about the story that the character does. The drama Oedipus Rex is full of dramatic irony. For example we know Oedipus killed the king of Thebes but he does not nor does he know the man he killed was his father, we also know he married his mother. The fact that Oedipus does not know any of these things makes this drama dramatically ironic. The reader feels dramatic irony when Oedipus kills King Laius, when he marries his mother, and when he is looking for the kings slayer unknowingly searching for himself the entire time. One day he took a walk and stumbled upon a cranky man.They had an altercation and Oedipus unknowingly led the King of Thebes to his death. This is all summary, and it must be recognized as belonging to the author you need a citation here. Due to being adopted Oedipus did not know his biological parents, mother nor father, and neither did they know him. So when Thebes heard the news that their king was dead and Oedipus was raised by royalty they decided to make him king of Thebes. For saving them he was awarded King Laius' wife.
