Dissatisfaction in The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925, about James Gatz, a poor farmer boy who manages to disguise himself as the fabulously rich Jay Gatsby. In the summer of 1922 he attempts to win over his old love Daisy Buchanan, where in the process he gets unexpectedly killed. Daisy is married to Tom Buchanan, both from old money causing them to look down Gatsby, who is from the newly rich crowd. All of the main characters show a dissatisfaction in their lives. The characters live a certain life because of how they are dissatisfied with what they have and what they do not have. Myrtle and his husband is from a lower status, they are both working for a better life in their own ways. George is working very in his car garage, when on the other hand Myrtle decides to have a affair with Tom from the Higher class. Tom who is from a completely wealthy family is bored with his life, and is still unsatisfied with his wife and wealth. Jordan, like Tom, is still unsatisfied with everything in her life, she is careless and is willing to do anything for what she wants. Gatsby lead himself towards his death on the pathway to fulfil his dissatisfaction with his family, personal histories, social status, wealth and relationships in life. After going through the whole story, Nick becomes unsatisfied of the people around him and is worried about starting a new life without Gatsby. These all show how dissatisfaction is a very significant theme in the Great Gatsby and how this problem surrounds every character in the
