When someone is looking for a job, they have their resume and their best work attitude ready for the job interview or their first day at their new job. They have their business attire, their uniform, or their casual clothing (depending on where they’re working) and they are ready to take on the next tasks at hand. In no way should there be any discrimination against them. Being straight, they do not have to worry about that. But any lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, etc. person has to deal with being discriminated against and not having the protection they deserve. Many LGBT workers feel unsafe when they are at work, even though they have the fair chance of being at that job. They should not be discriminated against just because they are not the normality and they do not fit in with everyone else. They are afraid to walk into work because sometimes they feel like they might get laughed at, beaten up, or even having their work rights taken from them. They experience a significant amount more victimization than any other coworker does whilst working. The only thing they should be judged on is their ability to get their jobs done. It should not make a difference whether they are gay or not, it should matter their performance on the job they are doing (Barack Obama, 2013) (Kuyper 1). Many businesses nowadays offer health benefits and protection to members of the LGBT community so they are not discriminated against in the workplace, while some businesses do not offer protection which …show more content…
So if a male transgender was born a female, but looks like a male, they must still use the women’s bathroom, and vice versa. This causes a lot of controversy because men and women do not want to see the opposite sex in their bathroom even if they were born that sex. It does not matter if their genitals are being hidden, they still must use that corresponding bathroom. Because of this bill, many companies have started to withdraw their business from North Carolina because they do not believe that this bill should have been passed. Many companies have signed a petition written by Equality North Carolina that wants HB2 to be repealed. In midst of this, many celebrities have cancelled their concerts in North Carolina as well. These celebrities include Bruce Springsteen, Demi Lovato, Ringo Starr, Pearl Jam, and many more. This has made many people angry because they paid money to see these performers and now they will not be able to. Because of this bill, many transgender men and women are afraid to walk around in public in fear of being harassed and bullied [in school] because of this bill and the fact that they are not being protected by law anymore.
