Throughout the film Zootopia, discrimination and stereotypes impacted nearly everyone’s life. The film features a slew of characters dealing with oppression and fear. To make the film child friendly, the writers opted to have every animal represent a race. Although some animals may have been affected more than others, nearly everyone has experienced being discriminated against or judged. Out of the many characters throughout the film; Judy, Nick and Bellwether were most affected by discrimination. The main character, Judy Hobbs, was mistreated because of her gender and her unintimidating looks. Nick Wilde was considered dangerous because he was a fox. The only difference between the two is that Bellwether seemed to have a deeper hatred for predators when compared to Judy. There were many moments throughout the film where Bellwether felt Judy was the only one who could relate to her drawback of being little. “Us little guys really need to stick together!” exclaimed Bellwether to Judy. Bellwether was constantly neglected and controlled like a slave by Mayor Lionheart and Chief Bogo since Bellwether could do nothing about it. For example, the time Bellwether recommends to the mayor that it’d be a good idea to review some new notes for a case, but the mayor disregards her and slams the door in her face. Over time, Bellwether eventually needed an outlet to release the anger she had built up over a period of time. She would later go on to develop a distain towards predators. She went as far as setting a goal to someday make Zootopia a city where prey reign supreme, and predators are labeled as nothing more than worthless, bloodthirsty savages. To achieve her goal, Bellwether formed an alliance with rams who share the same opinions and created a chemical drug capable of turning civil mammals savage. The drug would tarnish the predators reputation and could potentially force Mayor Lionheart out of office, promoting Bellwether and granting her control over the city.
