Not many people in today’s world think that racism is still a problem ,but others see otherwise. Those that have seen the true world will know that racism is still a very big problem. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus Finch has to protect a black man from being accused of a crime he did not commit, and protect him from the racist views of the town. Atticus, the black mans defense attorney, uses strong emotions and facts to try to persuade the jury.

In the book To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus is walking in front of the jury when he asks the judge if he can take off his: watch and chain, unbutton his vest and collar, loosened his tie,and took off his coat. In doing this the jury felt more comfortable around him and they were more open to suggestions and will listen to him more closely. He then went on to say at the end of his speech “In God’s name believe him.” , he said this more to him self than to the jury but it shows that he is associating with religion and is trying to get them to go more with religion and evidence more than prejudices.

Atticus also defends racial justice in Tom Robinson’s case, even though the people of the town antagonize him for being the defense attorney for a black man. When the jury announces that they’ve found Tom guilty without any evidence, this is an example of how Atticus cares for humanity no matter what color skin color they are. The jury made their decision the day they found out Tom Robinson was a black man, but this didn’t stop Atticus from fighting for Tom. Atticus still had tried his best to prove that the Ewells were lying, and that Tom was an innocent…

Atticus is defending Tom Robinson, a black man, who allegedly raped Mayella Ewell. Atticus relies on anaphoric sentences, asks hypophoric questions, appeals to logos, and to create a direct tone, all to prove Tom’s innocence. One very important part of Atticus’ speech was his direct tone.…

The people of Maycomb are significantly affected by racism and prejudice. Although there are many examples of this present throughout the text, I will be highlighting three of them; the first one being the Tom Robinson’s case. Another example of this is the bullying Jem and Scout receive as a result of Atticus defending Tom Robinson in court. The last example I’m going to share is the town's disapproval of Mr. Dolphus Raymond’s interracial relationship. All of these examples support my thesis of racism and prejudice being extraordinarily present in maycomb.…

Racism stands for more than one thing. In this case Harper Lee expresses that the theme in “ To Kill A MocKingbird” is you should never judge or mistreat someone because of their skin color. In this book a black man was found guilty for raping a white women when he was clearly innocent, in addition he was also shot 17 times because he was black. In some cases shooting someone 17 times and is unarmed is called overkill. So, therefore, racism is still a big thing in the U.S. today Tom Robinson, an African American man found guilty for a crime he didn’t commit such as raping a white women, whose name is Mayella.…
