To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is like the world today in the way of skin color. In To Kill A Mockingbird Tom Robinson was found guilty, even though all the signs pointed to not guilty. He was then killed trying to escape prison because it was so hard on him to be told he was guilty even though he knew he wasn’t. This wasn’t because he did it, it was because he was african american and the Ewells, saying Tom raped Mayella Ewell, were white.
In many court cases today people aren’t given the fair amount of years behind bars. Some people are given less what they should have been. For example when they commit a serious like murder, but then they are out on the streets again in only a couple decades later. Some doing the same thing that got them in jail. Other examples are of how people are given different sentences for the same thing. Like if two people committed two different burglaries both with the intention to rob the store of everything they have. But one person gets about 5 years and the other gets 7 with no possibility to get out on good behavior. A review was taken in Florida and it says in 60% of cases black people get longer sentences than white. …show more content…
Some people are given advantages because they are younger, peppier, and better looking. If two people are battling for a spot a sales person both with the same resume and experience with only one difference, their age, there is often a outlook many people expect. The younger person will probably get the job. Even in cases where a older person is better for the job, and the younger has no experience what so ever, the young person will likely get the job. This is discrimination because it is unfair to the older person. They worked hard and got jobs and had experience but someone who doesn’t have any experience or jobs gets a very important/life changing position over that
