When asked about what her experience in the U.S was like, she says that people assumes that people of her ethnicity are untrustworthy and admits that she had done things deserving those sort of stereotyping. Her exact words were: “I’m a Gypsy, so I always get the [you and your people are all thieves, con artists, swindlers, cheaters, crooks, and squatters] thing. But stereotyping exists for a reason, I was a thief and I had conned people in the past”.This is an example of prejudice because people assumed she is someone to watch out for because she is a Gypsy. To my understanding, it is in their culture to move around. Due to misinformation, people seem to think that they move around to avoid being caught scamming other people. Because of this reason, some Gypsies hide their ethnicity as to avoid being discriminated against because of who they are. While not all Gypsy are thieves, con artists, swindlers, cheaters, crooks, or squatters, most of them were notorious for doing such things which is why people tend to very prejudice toward them. But that doesn’t mean that we should discriminate Gypsies just because some members of their ethnic groups do these sorts of things. Since Asians are the majority and every other race are the minority, I have never really been discriminated against myself so I couldn’t possibly know what it feels like. I can conclude that people suffering from discrimination are due to racism or prejudice or even both at times. Comparing how things were in the past and now, I can say with certainty that society in the U.S has improved tremendously. In the past, if you were not Caucasian you would most likely be discriminated against in many ways and there wasn’t many communities dedicated to a certain ethnic group. Now, it seems that people are generally treated fairly regardless of what their races and ethnicity is. That said, I think that the society still have a long way to go. Unfortunately, some people will refuse to change their ways and are still being racist to other even now for as long as they live. But as long as the society does what is right as a whole, I believe that as time goes by, even if some people will never change, perhaps the future generation will come to be cultural
