Examples Of Discourse

Decent Essays
The changes I made between the first draft and the final draft were give more details and elaborate on the example of discourse of the young woman describing an individual to her parents differently and then describing the individual to her boyfriend. Also giving more explanation on what Discourse is and how it affects people and the environment they are in. As for deleting or taking out stuff I did not need, it was very easy because after rereading it I was able to caught my mistakes and deleting extra sentences that were repeating. What I see as the primary strength or success of this essay is that for every quote or example at the end of each I describe or try to connect it to relatable scenario as what I experience in the intro and over

Overall, so far this essay feels chopped and put together and needs polishing. Stage of Development: This is the fourth draft of my rhetoric essay. I’ve gotten eight peer reviews. I have worked on this for two weeks on and off for short periods of time. The conclusion, intro, and body paragraphs all need a stage of polishing.…

    Rhetorical Critique

The first thing I changed in my Rhetorical Critique essay was the structure. I fixed the title and the spacing between paragraph, before and after. I also erased words that were damaging my work, such as, always and edit the style of my essay since I committed errors like putting the final dot outside of the quotation instead of inside. Moreover, I had to fix the tense of some words, for example in the first try I wrote succeeded, when the correct use should have been succeeds since I was referring to Carter’s ability to get his point across, something that still continues to exist. By fixing these errors which fall under the category of Style, I made a stronger appeal to ethos.…

Analysis of Rhetorical Project For this assignment, I decided to work off a subject that truly “strums” a string in my heart, which is racism, particularly the “Stop and Frisk” law which has arised in New York. This unfair law has been in my subconscious, as it strikes me as both illogical, and quite offensive to minorities. While the law aims to create “safety”, as well as eliminate criminal activity, it truly offends those who are suspected of crime, especially when a large sum of those people randomly happen to be POC. And, according to NYPD’s reports, 9 out of 10 of the chosen suspects are innocent. These people are pulled simply because they have a certain “look”, and I find it to be not only offensive, but…

My introduction paragraph was not up to the senior level writing. My writing simply didn’t make a clear path that allowed me to carry my ideas throughout the whole paper. The flow of each sentence was choppy and that made it difficult for anyone reading this paper get into the essay; therefore, I need to start including transitional words, phrase, or sentence so the reader and I can easily read my essay faster and with ease. Another thing that I would change is the thesis that I made.…

A discourse community is something that I have been thankful to be apart of through out my high school career, and to this day. The Washington High School Soccer team all shares a common goal of wanting to win a West Virginia State Championship, and continue to be successful through out life, sharing means of communication through social media and email. During my upper classman of high school I got chance to be apart of family that was all held together by something that meant more than just a ball. My soccer team was a magnificent group of friends, and we are still very close thanks to this discourse community. Through the seasons and off seasons the team has never fallen apart and we still remember what made out team so good the chemistry.…

The discourse community I chose to study are the CNA’s (certified nurse assistant) at Marquis Shaw Mountain Nursing Home. What I have noticed in talking to my sister, Blais, (a CNA at Marquis) and CNA’s at other facilities is each nursing home has their own atmosphere and way of doing things, just like any discourse community. At Marquis the CNA’s are expected to take care of the residents and provide whatever service the resident needs to live as comfortable as possible. This includes dressing them, showering them, feeding them, and even doing the residents nails. Originally my sister had started off as a CNA at another nursing home and two years later decided to apply elsewhere.…

“The Power of One” also demonstrated my improved method of writing my introduction and conclusion paragraphs. I was sure to begin my essay in an interesting way by opening with a rhetorical question. On top of that I introduced the idea of “the power of one” and continued this idea by concluding my essay with it as well. In addition, in “Shift to Reality” I feel my paragraph development was strong and thorough as I examined the depth at which William Golding brings his novel to a satisfying conclusion. On the other hand, I still feel I struggle with sentence structure and awkward wording as shown in my ALS Ice Bucket Challenge essay.…

Perspective A discourse community is a social group or can be something that inquires shared values, practices, or can even share the same language. A speech community, however; is not the same thing as a discourse community; a speech community is a community that shares the knowledge of rules for the conduct and interpretation of speech. (WaWpg.219) Defining a discourse community can be hard due to the range of different types of discourse communities. Examples of a discourse community would be a church group, sports team, work scene, and even the neighborhood skater group.…

I carried the lesson learned from the first essay with me through the next two essays. Nearly everyone is part of a discourse community, most of the time, multiple discourse communities. However, the majority of people do not even know what a discourse community is. A discourse community can consist of any of the following including, but not limited to, particular academic fields, religious organizations, and hobby groups. Discourse communities have the power to influence and shape the way many individuals think and behave. The particular discourse community I have chosen to analyze is my sorority, Delta Gamma.…
