Early in the book Scout shows that she filled with courage. On the first day of school Scout quickly becomes an influence in her class. She informs Miss Caroline of Walter Cunningham's situation. Miss Caroline had just yelled at Scout for her ability to read yet she still feels the need for leadership in the class. Most children at the age of 7 would fear speaking to the teacher after being yelled at. Scout shows a lot maturity for her age which helps her show courage at such a young age, rather than being a normal kid. Walter Cunningham was shy as well as scared of speaking to his teacher. Scout over came the fears that Walter was fearful of and told the teacher which worked out for Walter in the end. Her courage spoke for Walter's
