When you hear the word hero, what comes to mind? Do you think of characters from comic books or mythology, such as Superman or Hercules? Do everyday heroes such as firemen, policemen, or military personnel come to mind? Whatever your perception of a hero might be, they all have something in common; they all posses the qualities of courage, integrity, and selflessness. One quality a good leader possesses is courage. Courage is the mental or moral strength to venture, perservere, and withstand danger, fear or difficulty. In the poem Beowulf, the warriors show complete indifference to death. They believe that everything is going to happen the way that God wills it and that all they can do is meet every challenge fearlessly.
