To start off, Johnny had a problem with another character, Bob. In The Outsiders, there are two groups: the Socs and the greasers. While Johnny was a greaser, Bob was a Soc. One night, Johnny and his best friend, Ponyboy, met the Socs. Bob started drowning Ponyboy, and Johnny had to save his best friend. Without thinking too much, Johnny killed Bob with a knife. “I killed him,” he said slowly. “I killed that boy.” (Hinton 56).
