Out of all, there are three specific ones that help the story keep moving. The main character Ponyboy’s best friend, Johnny vs. Bob, a guy from the Socs, Johnny vs. the injuries he went through, and finally Ponyboy vs. himself. The conflicts are essential for the continuation of the story.
To start off, Johnny had a problem with another character, Bob. In The Outsiders, there are two groups: the Socs and the greasers. While Johnny was a greaser, Bob was a Soc. One night, Johnny and his best friend, Ponyboy, met the Socs. Bob started drowning Ponyboy, and Johnny had to save his best friend. Without thinking too much, Johnny killed Bob with a knife. “I killed him,” he said slowly. “I killed that boy.” (Hinton 56). Johnny and Bob’s conflict ended up as Bob’s sorrow death, which led to Johnny and Ponyboy running away.
