In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird the author Harper Lee uses conflict to express the idea that having the courage to fight can make people hate you. This means that when you are fighting for someone you can make others around you hate you. It could also mean that when Atticus fought for Tom Robinson the people around him where he lived thinks that he is traitor and they hated him for what he has done. Even Mayella and Bob Ewell hated him for what he is doing. Atticus was hated by people of Scout’s friend parent where Atticus could have died because he was protecting Tom Robinson from getting killed. In addition on page 117 Atticus says “ you know what’s going to happen as well as I do, Jack, and I hope and pray I can get Jem and Scout through

Each and every human being is unique. When we take a glance at the people we encounter in our daily lives, not a single one will be an exact replica of each other. Yet we are quick to judge people in the appearance or behavior without fully understanding them. This is one of our flaws that we must overcome by ourselves, which Scout and Jem learn throughout the book. The most simple example of this would be the case of Boo Radley, the mysterious man which catches the children’s attention.…

Atticus was a whole different person before “‘. . . Atticus Finch was the deadest shot in Maycomb County in his time’” (Lee 112). When Miss Maudie tells Scout and Jem that Atticus used to be the best shot, neither of them could believe it. Their father, probably the most level headed and humble person they ever met had hidden part of his past “Nevertheless, he refuses to use his background as an excuse to hold himself above others and instead is a model of tolerance and understanding” (“To Kill a Mockingbird”).…

In life people will misunderstand you not everyone will understand what your saying or doing. In the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” shows misunderstanding in society because the characters don’t understand why one of the characters is defending a negro. This is shown in a child’s point of view because this child went thru all these misunderstandings in society. People will misunderstand what you will say because they might understand something else then what said. For example, one of the characters, Dill doesn’t have a father and told one of the other characters, Jem.…

Tolerance is one’s ability to accept other people’s ideas or methods, especially those that they do not agree with. In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, the character Scout is taught about tolerance as she is being introduced to an environment different than what she is used to. She has to learn how to control her actions as she matures, which leads to her having to adapt to changes in the way she acts around people. Atticus had to teach Scout how to tolerate people, even if she did not want to. For example, after the first day of school, Scout came home with a disliking for her new teacher, Ms. Caroline, because of her teaching methods.…

Adversity is a state of continued difficulty or hardship that a person may experience. Both “A Time To Kill” directed by Joel Schmaucher and “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee present characters that face adversity and have different methods of dealing with the situation they face. Some submit to adversity, like Lucien Wilbanks and Arthur ‘Boo’ Radley. Others respond using societies provided systems, such as the law, like Jake Brigance and Tom Robinson do. Non-violent resistance is used by Deputy Willie Hastings and Atticus Finch as a way of dealing with adversity, while Carl-Lee Hailey and Bob Ewell deal with their adversity by using violence.…

The way that Scout's actions had dispelled the tension in the room is by introducing himself to a man he had once known and then explaining how the two had met and an encounter he had with his son. As Scout had approached Mr. Cunningham he introduced himself as Jean Louise Finch and when she did introduce himself Scout had thought maybe he forgot who she was or didn't know him after all but then Scout began to mention Mr. Cunningham's son and had asked him if it was his son. After that Mr. Cunningham noded towards Scout which must have given Scout the feeling that maybe he does know her. As Scout kept talking to Mr. Cunningham about his son she mentioned a sentenced which really didn't seem to shock Mr. Cunningham even though Scout thought…

The two types of violence that are most commonly seen in works of literature are: violence of a character with himself or with another character and the second type is violence that the author creates for the characters in the writing, in order to ensure the plot progresses well. The main difference between the two types of violence is that the second one has a higher level of depth and significance than the first. I have read many books that depict both these types of violence, some examples include: Harry Potter, The Outsiders and To Kill a Mockingbird. But the book I specifically wish to focus on is, To Kill a Mockingbird. In that novel, the first type of violence is depicted with the death of Tom Robinson.…

A child’s mind is like a picture you know what’s on the outside, but you’ll never know what’s in the inside. In “ To Kill A Mockingbird, “ Harper Lee uses conflict and characterization in order to convey the idea that a simple child’s innocence can be shattered from life’s problems, however they still don’t understand what’s going on yet. Harper Lee first uses an external conflict on Mr. Walter Cunningham in a gang to convey her theme. When an outraged mob went to the penitentiary where they were planning on hurting Tom Robinson, they didn’t expect to see that Jen as well as Scout was there too. When Scout saw Cunningham she says to Walter in the most innocent way “ Hey Mr. Walter Cunningham's.…
