Of mice and men was a story written by John Steinbeck. Publish in 1937. The story takes place during the Great depression. Based on two migrant ranch workers in California, New Jersey. George Milton and Lennie Small goes from work site to work site looking for job opportunities so that somehow, one day they can save enough money up and invest it into their own farm.
George met Lennie when he work at Lennie’s aunt farm. But soon Lennie aunt got sick and George promised her. That he will take care of him and ever since then. And I believe the first conflict I notice in the story was the struggle for survival between everyone. You have to remember during that time period is was every man for their self. Everybody was out to eat, looking for the next dollars so that they could make a come up. The character Lennie couldn’t survive by himself only because he was mentally challenge and was brought up not to be independent because his aunt took care of him. And George made the promise to continue to look after him after his aunt died. Which is very uncommon during that time period. Everyman for himself basically. But he makes the characters in his story to become so realistic. Of Mice and Men being so much more realistic because it came out during The Great Depression and the grim and he talked about what he seen in his everyday life.
