Bruno shows compassion by bringing Shmuel food, by treating Jewish slaves like real people, and by helping Shmuel find his father. Bruno first shows compassion to Shmuel when he starts to bring food to him everyday. Bruno sees Shmuel as a normal kid, and he even invites Shmuel to come have dinner with him and his family. Bruno later finds out that Shmuel is part of a different world, where there is only suffering and despair. Bruno sees this and he shows compassion for Shmuel by bringing him food everyday and by keeping him company. Although there is a fence that separates the two of them, Bruno brings food to Shmuel and they are able to bond together as friends. Bruno feels bad for Shmuel and he sees how miserable he looks and that was when he started bringing him food and some games to play everyday. Shmuel is grateful to have a friend like Bruno and he eagerly awaits his arrival everyday. Shmuel sees that Bruno is compassionate for him, and that is what makes him see that he actually does have real life friends. Another time when compassion is shown in the movie is when Bruno shows compassion to the Jewish workers in his house. We usually see compassion given from doctors. Doctors have to give compassion when a patient has a serious problem, when they have a really bad wound and they do not have much of a chance to survive, and when there patient is suffering from a disease. Doctors have to show compassion to many patients who are in a great deal of pain. Either if it is with their lungs or heart, doctors have to be their to tell them that they will be fine. Of course one of the toughest things to do is to be compassionate when a patient has a low chance to survive. In that case, many doctors will hide that fact and try to show compassion for them as they try to help them.
