In recent times the government has its own ways to convince the population into censorship. Like in 1984, the people willingly give up their rights, and today it is for their own “protection”. “The sinister fact about literary censorship in England is that it is largely voluntary”(Orwell). As stated by The Independent, “The prime minister has looked to introduce sweeping and deep changes to the way the internet works”(Independent), all of this in the name of stopping terrorism. Censorship is also available in the United States as well. In an article by CNN, it is stated, “...Google received 187 requests from the United States law enforcement agencies and courts to remove contents from its web properties from July to December…”(CNN). Though the party in 1984 controls news on its own, the government in first world countries seem to just ask the corporations that control the media
