Calpurnia, a character in the novel “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, is motherly, courageous, and loyal. First of all, she is a housekeeper and “mother figure” to the Finch family who lives in Maycomb County, Alabama. Calpurnia is motherly because she has been around for most of the kid’s lives and practically raised them with Atticus (the father). She has taught Scout how to read and even disciplines her and her brother. For example, in the novel Scout says, “ ‘Calpurnia sent me through the swinging door to the dining room with a smack’ ”(pg.25).
