Have you ever been betrayed? Have you ever loved? Have you ever betrayed anyone else? Everyone go through their lives meeting new people everyday. Sometimes we end up getting to know eachothers very well and others not so much. But for the ones people end up loving, they might lose. When they lose someone, it might feel as betray. This part of a theme shown through the Uglies series. The Uglies series is about a girl, Tally, trying to find herself and become pretty while other’s influence her ideas and friends. These influences make her manipulate, betray, and love lots of new people she meets along the way. The theme shown is with greater love, there is greater braytal. This represents the theme of with greater love there is greater betrayal. The pendant is first brought up by doctor Cable in the office; Doctor Cable says, “The finder will only respond to your eye-print, Tally. Once it’s activated, we’ll be they're within a few hours. We can travel very quickly.” Cable dropped the necklace onto the desk. “But don’t activate it until you're in the smoke. This has taken us some time to set up. I want the real thing, Tally.” Tally blinked away the afterimage of the flash, trying to force her exhausted brain to think. She realized now that this had never been a simply a matter of answering questions. They had always wanted her to spy, and infiltrator. She wondered how long this had been planned.” (Westerfeld 130). This is important because it starts Tally’s conflict with herself and if she wants to choose her dreams over her friends. If she chooses her dreams, she will betray her friends, and this pendant can ruin so much for her friends. On the over hand, it can give her prettiness.
