Works of literature often depict acts of betrayal. Friends and family may betray a protagonist; main characters may likewise be guilty of treachery or may betray their own values. The Tradegy of Macbeth serves as an excellent example of betrayal. Betrayal is often describes as being disloyal to someone or something. The most prevalent reason for committing acts of betrayal are a desire for power, along with too much ambition.
