During his preparations to fight the dragon, Beowulf had a new shield made entirely out of iron. Even in his old age, Beowulf was confident in his victory because he had the tools necessary for him to succeed.
While preparing for the his confrontation with the dragon, Beowulf had a new shield made for him. This new shield was made entirely out of iron. Beowulf had his shield made out of iron because he knew that the dragon could breath fire, therefore Beowulf knew that his wooden shield would do nothing to protect him. Beowulf’s new iron shield helped to protect him from the dragon’s fire-breathing attacks. The iron shield provides Beowulf with a sense of security that his old shield could not given the situation.
