How to be a Successful Certified Nursing Assistant Many CNA’s have their own methods on how to be successful and proactive while they work. To be a successful certified nursing assistant you must carry certain traits including good time management, compassion, and good work ethic.
An important step to being successful is wanting to do the kind of work that this job requires. I know so many people who are CNA’s and hate the work that they do. If you come and do this job and do not enjoy doing it, you will not do perform very well. A huge part of this job is interacting with the residents and showing compassion for them. While in this field you need to know that every resident’s needs and situations are different; what works for one, may

This is a very important step and once you manage to control how long it takes for you to complete certain tasks, everything else should come rather easily. If you work mornings, a crucial area for time management is right in the morning when you start your shift, till they serve breakfast. You should get everyone washed, dressed and up before breakfast arrives, which may not seem like a hard task but if you don’t manage your time right, you’ll never get everyone up in time. Another crucial time is the last hour and half of your shift. This is when you are usually running around trying to finish up the tasks you didn’t get a chance yet to do, and trying to finish up all your charting for the day. When the residents eat, you have to manage your time between keeping an eye on them and making sure they have everything they need so they can have a nice meal but also attend to those who are finished eating and want to go to the bathroom or lay down. There’s also activities once a week you can do with the residents that requires you to fit in your

I also have decided to eliminate spending time in our athletic’s training room. This is a huge time gap for me that is just procrastination until dinner time. It is in this time that I can complete other tasks that are urgent or important. Finally, I am already pretty good about making to do lists, however I need to make sure I am really finishing these on time to reduce stress and time pressure.…

In my life, no one day is the same as the next. Because of this, my eating habits and amount of activity changes depending on what life has in store for me that day. Some days, I am on my feet all day at work with my meals and snacks prepared, others I am sitting in a class room all day, eating whatever I can grab between classes. Then, there are my favorite days; where I can relax and catch up on life and enjoy a cup of ice cream. In a perfect world, I would be able to meal prep for every day of the week, but often that can get pricey and is just unrealistic for me because I do not like eating the same thing every day.…

Nurses are encouraged to treat patients quickly and efficiently, but these rules are not without fault. Nurses are not always able to “exercise professional discretion” (Tschudin 566) when treating patients expeditiously. When nurses are not able to treat patients the way they need to be treated, it is a cause of moral distress. Moral distress is knowing what to do, but being unable to do the right thing because of various constraints on a nurse (Tschudin 568). Forcing a nurse to expedite treatment while still upholding the quality of treatment is stressful and a good-intentioned approach to this issue can easily go wrong.…

I am an RN, and I work in the same circumstances. Three key points for my selected topic are: ratio of nurse to patient, nurse’s burnout, and patient safety. Ratio of nurse to patient supports my argument because my main goal is to lower this ratio. It supports my argument because the administrators do not staff the units properly, so they to give each nurse more patients to care for to compensate for the lack of staff. Nurses burnout supports my argument because when a unit is under staff, RN's will have more work to do and more responsibility, which makes them feel overwhelmed.…
