Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Class

Improved Essays
Over the course of the semester, I have learned all of the skills necessary to excel in school and college. Some of the most important things I have learned were how to manage time and how to be an active reader. Before learning how to manage my time, I would easily get distracted and procrastinate but now I have learned how to get everything done in a timely manner. Also, before the course I would struggle to comprehend what my textbook said but thanks to the course, I now spend the time to reevaluate what I am reading to fully understand the material. Other helpful lessons I have learned from this class were how to take good, helpful notes and what kind of learner I am. My notes used to be quite jumbled and messy but now they are organized and follow a pattern making them easier to understand. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, myself included. I am particularly good at note taking as well as realizing the potential benefits of attending college to motivate me to try harder. My notes typically follow the teacher’s lectures but sometimes my methods vary from them when they go off on tangents or a different format would be easier to comprehend. Usually my notes …show more content…
By actually doing the work instead of just hearing or reading it, I can better learn the material. My key strengths as a learner lie within the math and science subjects because of the hands-on nature of the courses. I am good with formulas and thinking algebraically which means I have logical-mathematical intelligence. However, my limitations as a learner lie within the social studies fields and simply managing my time. I lack in the interpersonal intelligence so it is difficult for me to comprehend why others do what they do, and how they do it. Also, as previously stated, I poorly manage my time since I give in to distractions too easily. These are big limitations on my learning but I am working around them to accomplish my

Cognitive lenses that shapes my thinking are my study habits. I created my own techniques to study because not just one way is always affective. According to the Learning Styles Inventory. My most developed and strongest learning styles are bodily-kinesthetic, verbal-linguistic, musical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. The test reveals that I am not highly developed in any particular type of intelligence and I am weak and underdeveloped in visual-spatial, logical-mathematical, and naturalist intelligences. The book suggests that as a person with stronger interpersonal strengths, study strategies such as going over notes with fellow students are helpful. Based on my results as a strong verbal-linguistic individual, rewriting my notes in order to eliminate excess information and to hone into the important ideas, would be beneficial to my success in this course.…

What I learned about myself is that I have potential for being a global manager. Looking over the questions, I tend to lack in my experiences more than my actual skills. What I’ve learned is that I can adapt quick and connect with people easily, but I don’t have many experiences in it. To widen my range of experiences I would most likely have to travel more and emerge myself directly into new cultures. I would also have to study different languages a bit more for that is an area I very much lack in.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

I would explain learning to someone who has not taken this class, as taking new information in and applying it to the world around you. I would tell them to learn the way they learn best, whether it is reading information or being hands on with an activity that teaches you the information. Once you have the information you can connect and understand the information and apply it to your work and assignments. Everyone learns different and you have to find how you learn in order to become a critical learner. This class has changed my views of learning by me thinking learning was just taking in new information and applying it to my assignments, but this class has showed me that learning is much more than that.…

Part A: “Gathering Data Through all the Senses” is a huge key factor for academic success, this is something I have always struggled at doing. I would find the most simple way of doing something and not get a true full understanding of how it works and is done the right way, I just wanted to get the problem over with. The older I would get my attitude has changed on how I would get ready for a problem, I would try to understand every bit of information I could and as a result I would start doing better in my classes and any other problem I came across. When “Striving for Accuracy” you have to a willing attitude to go the extra mile and take your time to make sure you have everything right. “Striving for Accuracy” is something I can still be lazy about, I tend to just look at all the required info to add and make sure it is in it and be done with it.…
