9/11 Welles Character Analysis

Being a hero does not just mean they wear a cape or have a super hero ability. Sometime all anyone does to do to be a hero is help others in some way and sometimes even risk their own lives in order to do this. In 9/11, a man named Welles sacrificed his life in order to save others from the burning tower after the plane had crashed into it. He is known as a hero to many people due to the actions he took on that tragic day. Welles demonstrates being a hero by being selfless, determined, and by having courage. During 9/11, Welles helped lead people down from the sky lobby where the plane had crashed, to the lower floors of the building where they could get help. After he found the staircase, he went and told the victims stuck on the upper levels that he found an exit out of the building. Welles could just have easily continued to exit the burning building without trying to help anyone if he had wanted too. Even after Welles had lead some of the victims down the flights of stairs and got them to working elevators on the lower floors, he then went back up to the sky lobby to try to help more people get out of the building. This means Welles had already traveled down seventeen flights of stairs to get to the working elevators and then preceded to go back up all those stairs to get to the remaining victims. He shows determination by going back up those seventeen flights of stairs to try to rescue even more people a second time. Welles could have definitely just evacuated the building with the other people he had rescued the first time but he decided go back to help others. His determination to save as many people as he possibly could shows how Welles is a hero because he did not want to stop helping people even when others would have just left the
