Examples Of Avoidance Conflict

Decent Essays
I believe avoidance-avoidance conflict are the most stressful because either of the outcomes are rewarding. I was in an avoidance-avoidance conflict when I was in middle school. I was the setter of the volleyball team. My right hand made contact with the ball at a wrong angle and it sprained one of my fingers. I’m thinking I can put some ice on it and shake it off for the next game because I still wanted to be able to play. However, that turned out to be a bad idea. My finger was so swollen and in pain that anything I did with that hand would just throb of pain. Moral of the story is that I did go to the doctor and had to sit out of a week of games because of my sprained finger.

Social-conflict shows society as an arena. The way some cultures and races are treated compared to others is the best example of social conflict. In the 1960’s, the south saw white as dominant and black as unimportant. They had separate restrooms; separate busses and the payment for jobs between the races did not match. The stratification in the sixties made the two races see each other differently.…

One of the primary theoretical models of conflict pertaining to conflict within families is the Bowen family systems theory. According to Dr. Murray Bowen, “the family is an emotional unit and the emotional processes are the expressions of the hypothesized instinctual forces of togetherness and individuality. The introduction of acute or chronic anxiety into a relationship system unbalances these forces” (Titelman, 2008, p. 21). Basically, when a family system is afflicted with uncontrolled levels of anxiety, it’s likely that the family will suffer from some form of dysfunction (Jones-Smith, 2011). Likewise, the onset of dysfunction also leads to more conflict in the family as well, thus continuing the vicious cycle of destructive conflict…

I always viewed myself as a person who handled conflict in a compromising and collaborating way, however according to the Thomas-Kilmann test I actually identify more with the competing and collaborating. The disadvantages of the avoidance style are that it often tends to lead to health problems and affects one's well-being. When practicing the avoidance style it can come across as one doesn't care enough to address the issue. Avoiding the conflict typically leads to backlash or an explosion later on. The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument showed that I got a seven out of twelve which is still considered a high ranking. I did, however, believe that I would have scored much higher in this style because I resort to this very often.…
