Atticus demonstrates great acts of courage too. He demonstrates these acts through the segway of justice. Like at the cell, Tom Robinson is trapped in his little cement cell with only Atticus to keep him company. Further Along on the night a whole mob of cunningham's approach the cell with faces of determination. Atticus greets them, and when he sees the odds he doesnt shift in the slightest. He says “ you can turn around and walk away”. If this isn't heroism I don’t know what is. He is risking his own life with a mob to defend one of the people the community hates. In today's world he would be considered a Martin Luther King, he is the person that is standing up for what is right and no backing down just because the odds aren't in his favor. Again we see this in one of Atticus’s very best moments, “ real courage is when you fight for what's right, whether you win or lose”. But Atticus isn’t done yet, he goes on to say some more wise words to bob ewell. “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what”.
