To Kill a Mockingbird is a text rich in Christian allegory. The novel sets in Maycomb County, Alabama in the 1930s, it is noticeable through the reading that is a boring and dull town where most residents are consumed with finding out what goes on in each other’s lives. At this time the blacks and whites lived in the same town, but did not interact at all. If a white resident would socialize with a black resident that would be social death, that white resident would be isolated from the rest of the town. Not all the white residents are the same, there is one of the most cherished characters in this novel his name is Atticus Finch. Commencing with the first three fruits of the spirit, which are: love,faithfulness and patience. Atticus displays his love for all the people, whether they are black or white, evil or good. God taught us to love one another because God loves us all, it coincides with the same idea of how God told us to forgive each other because if we cannot forgive others how do we expect for God to forgive us. Atticus is a loving parent who teaches his children valuable lesson, for example, how he told Scout not to give up on school. “First of all,” he said, “If you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. Neither Jem and Scout calls Atticus “Dad”, instead they call him is first name. By analyzing you would notice that Atticus is unlike other parents, he allows his children to have an open mind, if it were you would you not be puzzled to see that your child calls you by your first name, most parents scold their child but Atticus never did that. “ I never went to school,” he said, “but i have a feeling that if you tell Miss Caroline we read every night she’ll get after me, and i wouldn’t want her after me.” (Lee page 36) He does not want to seem like a troublesome person that is why he avoids it, his children might see him old and feeble, however Atticus is better and greater than that but he does not show it. Atticus as immense sense of self-control, when Bob Ewell spat on his face and threatened him, Atticus never fought him or insulted him. “It was Miss Stephanie’s pleasure to tells us: this morning Mr.Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post office corner, spat in his face, and told him he’d get him if it took him the rest of his life.(Lee page 219) If it were another resident in Maycomb, they would have handled that differently, however another reason why Atticus may not have done anything is because Bob Ewell is a lazy drunkard, who dragged his family name the mud, probably according to Atticus, Bob was making an empty threat.
