Everyone loves the story of a tragic hero, in the pearl kino is the tragic hero. In John Steinbeck's the pearl there are many archetypes. Some examples of archetypes in this book are Kino as the tragic hero , Juana as the ally , and the doctor as the dark shadow. By the time you have read this essay you will know that the many archetypes are used to show stronger relationships between the characters. The first archetype I will be explaining is kino as the tragic hero. The first reason I have is how kino would do anything to protect his family even kill a man but in the end he ends up losing his son while he was trying to protect him. One reason the doctor is known as the dark shadow is because He is mean and racist towards Kino and his family and refuses to cure their baby’s scorpion bite. For my text evidence I have “ I have nothing better to do than to cure insect bites for little indians.” That is explaining how The Doctor will not cure the kid because of his race. The next reason why The Doctor represents the dark shadow is because he is very greedy for money from Kino’s pearl.
