The play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare takes place in 11th century Scotland. Macbeth is filled with hope, ambition, and tragedy. His own ambition to be king clusters his mind. Macbeth defines the traditional “tragic hero” archetype by displaying the manipulation of his own judgements by other characters.
