Do The Right Thing continues to be a reflection on today reality; there is still an existing of violence, segregation, cultural identification, authority’s abuse and mobility. Even the film theme “fight the power” have an existing of today reality. Neighborhood coming together to fight the people who are in power such as the government and authorities. This film also have racism, stereotypes, distrust and gentrification. Do The Right Thing plot was on an average day on the street of Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn in 1989. According to Sharon Wills, fundamental to Do The Right Thing’s antirealist project is its plainly “classical” structure, based on the prescribed rules of classical Greek drama.” I agreed with Sharon Wills because it maintain it focused uniting it time and place. This film was in 1989, and it show a transition of twenty-four hour period. There were different elements that represented the time and place such, as the characters clothing, Jordan’s, sneakers, walk man, hydrant water, and corner men sitting on the side walk streets. It show the single block of this neighbored and the different group that live there. A cultural identification included the African American, Italian, Puerto Rican, White American, and Koran. Each groups were strictly apart from the protagonist Mookie an African America until the last scene of the riots. At the last scene of the riots, every group joined against the police. Mookie was also the one that excited the groups were the riots began. Sharon Wills claimed that Do The Right Thing showed “hard realities of urban racial conflicts.” I also agreed with this because throughout the film you can observed the tension between these groups. The groups had there on stereotypes and distrust among each other’s. Another character was Pino who was Italian that constantly told his brother Vito not to trust Mookie. Pino favorite personalities were African American, but argued with Mookie that they were not black. The Puerto Rican racial conflicts with Radio Raheem because of the Walkman loud music. Mookie girlfriend mother who was Puerto Rican had racial conflicts with Mookie for his responsibilities of father. The White America police were the law enforcers, and acted as judges creating racial conflicts toward the groups.
