One man, one women, both face challenges, but only one comes out a hero. During The Odyssey, Odysseus has to fight many monsters and steer clear from many tempting situations to get back to his home town of Ithaca. In Antigone, Antigone has been arrested for breaking their king, Creon’s rule of not giving Antigone’s brother Polyneices a proper burial and is set to be executed. Odysseus’s is not a hero because he is self obsessed, while on the other hand Antigone is a hero because she is selfless.

In the play, Antigone, by Sophocles, Antigone has been brought in for burying her brother which is against Creon’s law. After this she had been set to be executed and doesn’t deny this, she accepts it because she did the right thing. Antigone is being a hero when she says that she did break the law, this is shown by this quote, “I don’t deny the charges, I admit them” (Sophocles 12). This shows how Antigone is a hero because she knows if she is guilty she will be executed, but she admits the charges with no hesitation. She does this because it is the right thing to do because the gods rules are to give everyone a proper burial. Antigone would rather follow the gods rules then the tyrant Creon’s rules and this is one reason why she is selfless. A second piece of evidence is when Antigone stands up against her tyrannical ruler and says, “Sorry who made this edict? Was is God? Isn’t man's right to burial decreed by divine justice? I don’t consider your pronouncement to important that they can just...that they can just overrule the laws of heaven” (Sophocles 12). Antigone also shows her heroism when she stands up and defies Creon's rules so that she can set a new standard for what will be tolerated from their dictator like leader. He has made up to many unfair rules for too long. He also thought his laws were above the god's laws when he didn’t listen to Tiresias about giving polyneices a proper burial. Antigone did the
