Examples Of Ambition In Macbeth

Macbeth is ambitious because whatever he wants he will get, and he will do anything to get what he wants. For example he wants to be king, so he kills Duncan. “I have done the deed. Didst thou not hear a noise?”(page:234 line #14). This quote shows Macbeth murdered Duncan because he is asking lady Macbeth if she heard him kill Duncan. This shows he is ambitious because he knew if Duncan died he would become king, so he was so ambitious he killed Duncan. Another example that shows Macbeth is ambitious is when he did not give up in the fight with Malcom. “I will not yield to kiss the ground before young Malcolm's feet…”(page: 288 line #29-30). This shows that he is ambitious to be king because if he dies Malcolm will become king, and he doesnt want that, so he keeps fighting. …show more content…

This shows that Lady Macbeth manipulates him because she is saying you will be a man if you do this job, and if you do not do the deed you will be less of a man. “I am settled and bend up each corporal agent to this terrible feat.”(page:230 line#80). Sharing his plan with Lady Macbeth, the would-be queen, shows he hoped “it would find welcome lodgement with her,” and she would encourage his greed for more power (Flathe 2). Realizing it is against his morals, Macbeth tries to back out of the murder plan but he is “charged with cowardice” by Lady Macbeth (Richardson 1). She scolds him for being too frightened to achieve his goal to become king and not being “the same in thine own act and valor as thou art in desire” (1.7.40-41).
