The epic story Beowulf is an allegory. An allegory is a story with one or more hidden meaning. Beowulf is an allegory because he has several levels to his personality. Between his fight with humanity and his humble ways makes him have several levels. Beowulf is a story about one man’s bravery, humbleness, and the struggle to fight his humanity. Throughout the story, Beowulf fights monsters and receives glory and treasures. Although Beowulf receives all of these treasures from Hrothgar he stays humble and shares with his Lord Hygelac. This is similar to when Beowulf and his men went to the Danes to help Hrothgar unexpected. One of Hrothgar’s men was standing his ground and questioning them. He said, “Who are you? Why have you sailed here fully armed? You don’t have permission from my people to land here with weapons out.” (Ch.3) Then the guard warned them they they must speak before other men believe he is a spy. The Anglo Saxons had to deal with any invasions and protecting their people and Lord.Grendel’s invasion at the Mead Hall where Hrothgar’s men slept and took advantage of all of the men there. Grendel took thirty men, took them back to his lair, and then ate them all. This kept happening for twelve years until Beowulf came to help the Danes. After Beowulf killed Grendel then another invasion happened just when everyone thought the world was right again. Grendel’s mother went to the Danes and killed one of Hrothgar's closest friend. The sword hrunting was used to kill Grendel’s mother. (Ch.23) Grendel comes form the slime that was created when Cain slain his own brother Abel. In the bible killing your own brother in one of the worst crime you do. Grendel is one of the evilest things besides his mother to come from such a sin. ( Ch. 1)Throughout the story the people go back and forth between pagan and christian ways. They had good omens. Good omens are when they looked for old signs of God but looked to the pagan God. The men believed in God but they didn't see changes immediately so they also tried pleasing the pagan god to get Grendel to go away. ( Ch.
