Physical abuse is very prominent early on in the book. Gregor has over night turned into a cockroach. A nasty, disgusting, bug. Of course, when he comes out of his room in the morning, the entire family is in shock and scared. They don't know what happened, but they know that thing is their son. Mr. Samsa (Gregor's Father), is the first to act. He begins hissing very aggressively and pushing him back with his cane. Gregor tries to get back to his room, but one of the doors is closed, so he can't get through do to his now wide back. His father violently forces him through the door. This was just the beginning. The father becomes distant from Gregor and never wants to be around him. One night he came drunk, found Gregor and beat him. He threw an apple at him that got lodged into his back.
