The first time I had to pick up “my dominoes” was in middle school, when I was bullied. I was different than my peers: I was artistic, humble, kind, outgoing and personable. There were many peers hoping to torment me, but I was dedicated to show my peers that we can get along despite our differences. In fact, I vividly remember myself explaining that “everyone won’t fit into the same box, so it’s not right to criticize my differences.” Due to moments where I persevered and stood up to my bullies, and had meaningful conversations with my peers, my bullying subsided. I pride myself on my qualities that have differentiated me, and I have become a respected friend, peer, and student for these pieces of my character. …show more content…

I need to cut these ties with them and become my own person, I need to become independent. I, as a teenager, have written this Declaration of Independence to show why I am going, why I need, to become independent. Monday, August 22nd, 2016, approximately 10 o’clock PM. I arrived home after a typical summer night out with my friends at the local Applebee’s, however I was greeted at the door by my already enraged father. Before I had time to take my shoes off of my feet, my father was already ridiculing me, spouting phrases such as “you’re so irresponsible” and “you cannot be trusted with anything.” Now of course there was some foul language included sporadically in those remarks, but overall I was shocked at why I was being attacked seemingly unprovoked. My father then decided to inform me that tomorrow at 8 AM I had to report to the soccer fields at Holy Ghost Preparatory School for soccer tryouts.…

Gordon B. Hinckley had once said something along the lines of hard work paying off, if effort is enforced into the work. Over the years I’ve had in high school I have really absorbed the aspect of this, being able to work up and achieve opportunities for the preparation in the outside world. Seventh and eighth grade having to understand the concepts in the athletic sport tennis was hard for me to comprehend. Actually being able to have proper etiquette of holding a tennis racquet was key, but being able to hit a tennis ball was a ‘whole other ball game.’ All two years of playing tennis in middle school I can not remember a single time me nor my tennis partner won a match.…
